alfie king Alfie King
London

Alfie King has always wanted to become a fully qualified Accountant. He chose the Apprenticeship route with the scholarship rather than University because he felt the opportunity was too good to miss.

“I felt that I answered the questions put to me the best way I could, they asked a lot of questions relating to the AAT which was good because it made sure I knew enough about the qualification. I think I was chosen maybe because the panel saw how passionate I was about Accountancy.”

On winning: I was over the moon with excitement.”

daniel binder Daniel Binder
Bilborough College Nottingham

Daniel has high ambitions to be a fully qualified Accountant and one day run his own business. He found out about the Kaplan Accountancy Scholarship by attending one of the Kaplan’s Summer Schools.

“Going to university can be expensive, but through an apprenticeship you can be earning while you learn.

I applied for a Kaplan Accountancy Scholarship because it offered me the best way to get into the accounting world. Both of my interviews went well. If you are prepared with what to say then the interview can be easy for both you and the interviewer.

On winning: I started to shake and I was ecstatic. I ran around my house shouting that I had won the Scholarship. This scholarship means everything to me. I can finally become an Accountant like I have always wanted. Plus, by winning it, employers are more likely to employ me.”

das bikramjit gakhal Das Bikramjit Gakhal
The City of Leicester College

Das Bikramjit Gakhal classes winning the Scholarship as one of his greatest achievements to date, and has equipped him with a great opportunity to fulfil his long term goals.

“This scholarship was more able for me as I didn’t like the idea of having to go to university and then completing my ACCA exam after I graduated.

My career goals are to become fully ACCA qualified within 4 years and to have gained invaluable experience working with a well recognised accounting business. I also hope to develop my tax knowledge and take further training into a tax based role.

On Winning: I was very shocked and I can’t wait to start studying with Kaplan.”

james fussey James Fussey
Grimsby

James is finishing his time at John Leggott College, Scunthorpe before starting his Scholarship. James’ main career goal is to become a fully qualified Accountant.

“With Kaplan being a leading provider, I would more than likely have being studying there anyway, as I wanted to progress through the professional qualifications.

I found out about the Kaplan Scholarships through the careers department at my college, but then did further research via the Kaplan website.

I believe I have a natural interest in numbers and have done through business studies for many years.

On winning: I was pleasantly surprised to be given the opportunity and to have won the scholarship exceed my expectations.

james sloane James Sloane
Manchester

James decided to apply for the Kaplan Accountancy Scholarship, because it would enable him to pursue a career in accountancy, seeing this as an amazing opportunity to begin his career.

“Winning the Scholarship enables me to gain the necessary qualifications and work experience. I will not incur a debt in university and instead be earning an income.

My career goals are to achieve the AAT qualification and go on to study for the ICAEW qualification. I then hope to qualify as a Chartered Accountant and be successful in my career.

I believe that in the current economic climate, a degree does not secure employment, whereas the apprenticeship does.

On winning: I was extremely pleased and surprised, my hard work had paid off and I had been successful in winning such an amazing opportunity.”

joe smith Joe Smith
Preston

Joe attended St Marys catholic technology college, Leyland and found out about the chance of being entitles to £15,000 worth of training from one of Kaplan’s Apprenticeship Coordinators.

“I chose Kaplan because Leah (Apprenticeship Coordinator) was very nice and helpful. Also the company seemed very trustworthy and respectful. I thought that the interview went as well as it could have gone, but as it was my first interview, I was a little nervous and shy at first.

On winning: To tell the truth when I received the phone call from Leah, I was speechless, which has never happened to me before! Winning the scholarship has and will change my life, as it allows me to have funding to train to be an Accountant and achieve many qualifications. I would love to become a chartered accountant further in life.”
