Kaplan Scholarship
I attended my school careers open evening having some idea of what it would be that I would like to do after completing my A Levels. I had previously been on work experience and choose to do accountancy on the work experience week. I really enjoyed my week in an accountants and whilst walking around the careers exhibition I saw the stand for Kaplan and was greeted warmly and they took the time to answer all my questions. This immediately grabbed my attention as it offered a chance to pursue a career in accountancy through an apprenticeship. It was here that I was informed about the Kaplan scholarship. This really interested me because I was told that if I went on to win this it would create greater chances on gaining an apprenticeship in accountancy as it would mean all my training would be paid for so I would be a more attractive prospect for an accountancy firm to take me on. I took the application form from this exhibition and had to write why I should win the scholarship and also I had to have a supporting application from a teacher. I filled the form in and wrote why it was I should win the scholarship and then sent off the form hoping that I would be selected for an interview. I was waiting around a month and when Kaplan got in touch it was good news and I had been selected to face the interviewing panel. This was an achievement in itself as I had got down to final 5 and I now had to prepare well for the interview which was in front of a panel of 4, of which there were 3 accountants and also 1 member of staff from Kaplan. This was a very nerve racking experience due to the fact it was my first proper interview. I was asked a range of questions and also had the opportunity myself to ask questions at the end. I had prepared for many hours before the interview and researched well into the AAT course and also what qualification I could go onto after completing this. I feel that the preparation that I did enabled me to answer all questions asked from the panel and stood me in good stead to win the scholarship. I found out on the same day of the interview, around 3:30, that I had won the scholarship. It was a very nervous wait as I wasn’t sure how it had gone but i’m glad to say that when I was contacted it was good news and I had been successful with winning the scholarship. I now have high aspirations to become an accountant after winning the scholarship because I know that the scholarship is going to give me a good footing to grow on and to move with into the future. I would like to gain an apprenticeship in accountancy and go on to become a qualified accountant being seen as an asset by the business that I go on to work for. I am looking forward to the future as I hope that it is going to be prosperous for me and I hope accountancy is going to challenge me throughout my life. So far I couldn’t thank Kaplan enough for what they have done for me.
