I’m working with a lot of employers at the moment and they are commenting on the number of candidates applying for jobs who do not have any work experience.
Remember if you are currently looking for work, or maybe due to finish school in the summer, make the most of your time off, especially during Easter, summer or half terms breaks to make the most of opportunities to go out and get work experience.
We often find that firms who take on work experience students for as little as 1 week will then employ them in the future when a vacancy arises or on completion of the students full time education.
You can often find suitable work experience opportunities if you enquire via friends and family, who have contacts in suitable businesses.

I advise you make your work experience as relevant as possible to the industry/profession you want to work in. If you are interested in AAT then try and get work experience in a finance department or accountancy practice. If it is a finance department in a retail company, that’s fine!
Comment by Saba Shabbir on March 7, 2011 at 11:07 Does it matter what kind of work experience you do?
Something like retail work experience- would that be beneficial say if you wanted to study AAT?
